Forever is Tomorrow CH3

Chapter 3: A Pattern Revealed

The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a warm glow across the bedroom. Lena lay in bed, tangled in the sheets, her mind racing with the events of the past few weeks. She had taken a brave step by opening up to Andrew , and while their relationship had strengthened, her underlying fears had not entirely vanished. She knew she had to confront these fears head-on if she wanted a lasting relationship with him.

Lena got up and prepared herself a cup of coffee. As she sat at the kitchen table, she pulled out a notebook and started writing. It was a therapeutic exercise suggested by her therapist, Dr. Patel, to help her process her thoughts and emotions.

**June 12**

I’ve been seeing Andrew for a few months now, and things are going well. He’s patient, understanding, and genuinely cares about me. But I can’t shake this fear that something will go wrong. Every time we get closer, I feel an urge to pull away. I don’t want to hurt him, but I’m scared of being hurt myself. Why can’t I just let myself be happy?

As she wrote, memories of her past relationships surfaced. Each one had started with so much promise, filled with laughter and shared dreams. But the moment things got serious, her anxiety took over. She remembered Daniel, the poetry lover, and how she had left him without a word. And then there was Mark, the musician, who had poured his heart out to her, only for her to vanish the next day.

Lena’s thoughts were interrupted by a knock on the door. She wasn’t expecting anyone, so she approached cautiously. Peeking through the peephole, she saw Tiffany standing there, holding a tray of pastries and a hopeful smile on her face.

“Morning, sunshine!” Tiffany greeted as Lena opened the door. “I thought we could have breakfast together.”

Lena smiled, letting her friend in. “You always know when I need you the most.”

They sat at the kitchen table, munching on croissants and sipping coffee. Tiffany could sense the turmoil in Lena’s eyes and decided to broach the topic gently.

“Are you okay?” Tiffany asked, concern etched in her voice.

Lena sighed, staring into her coffee cup. “I don’t know, Tiffany . I’m trying to make things work with Andrew , but I keep getting scared. I keep thinking about all the times I’ve left before. I don’t want to hurt him, but I don’t know how to stop this cycle.”

Tiffany reached across the table, squeezing Lena’s hand. “You’ve been through a lot, Lena. It’s understandable that you’re afraid. But you’re stronger than you think. You’ve already taken the first step by talking to Andrew . The next step is believing that you deserve happiness.”

Lena nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. “I want to believe that, but it’s hard. I keep thinking about my mom and what she went through. I’m scared of ending up like her.”

Tiffany ’s expression softened. “You’re not your mom, Lena. You’ve already broken so many cycles by recognizing them. Now you just have to trust yourself and trust Andrew . He loves you, and he’s willing to fight for you. You just need to let him.”

That evening, Lena decided to visit Dr. Patel. She had been seeing the therapist for a few months, and their sessions had helped her understand the roots of her fears. Dr. Patel’s office was a safe space where Lena could unravel her emotions without judgment.

“Welcome, Lena,” Dr. Patel greeted her with a warm smile as she entered the office. “How have you been?”

Lena settled into the comfortable chair, taking a deep breath. “I’ve been better, Dr. Patel. Things with Andrew are good, but I keep feeling this overwhelming fear. I’m scared I’ll hurt him like I’ve hurt others before.”

Dr. Patel nodded, her eyes filled with empathy. “It’s understandable to feel that way, given your past experiences. But remember, you are not defined by your past. You have the power to change your patterns. Let’s explore why you feel this fear and how we can address it.”

As they talked, Lena recounted her childhood memories, the trauma of losing her mother, and the man who had caused so much pain. She spoke about her relationships and how she always felt the need to run when things got serious.

“Lena, it seems like your fear of intimacy is deeply rooted in your past,” Dr. Patel said thoughtfully. “You associate love with pain and loss, which makes it hard for you to trust that someone will stay. But it’s important to remember that Andrew is not those men from your past. He is different, and he cares about you deeply.”

Lena nodded, wiping away a tear. “I know that, logically. But emotionally, it’s so hard to break free from those fears.”

Dr. Patel smiled reassuringly. “It takes time and effort, but you can do it. Let’s work on some strategies to help you manage your anxiety and build trust in your relationship with Andrew .”

Over the next few weeks, Lena and Andrew continued to grow closer. They spent their weekends exploring the city, visiting art galleries, and trying out new restaurants. Andrew was patient and kind, always willing to listen and support Lena.

One evening, as they were walking along the river, Andrew stopped and looked at Lena, his eyes filled with love and determination.

“Lena, I know you’re scared. I know you’ve been hurt before. But I want you to know that I’m here for you. I’m not going anywhere. We can take this one day at a time, and I’ll be with you every step of the way.”

Lena felt a surge of emotion, her heart swelling with love and gratitude. “Thank you, Andrew . I love you, and I want to make this work. I’m just scared.”

Andrew pulled her into a hug, holding her tightly. “We’ll face those fears together. You don’t have to do this alone.”

Despite their progress, Lena’s fears resurfaced one night when she received a phone call from an unknown number. The voice on the other end was eerily familiar, sending chills down her spine.

“Lena,” the voice said, filled with a sinister undertone. “Did you really think you could escape your past?”

Lena’s heart raced, her hands shaking as she gripped the phone. “Who is this?”

The voice chuckled darkly. “You’ll find out soon enough. Just remember, forever is never really forever.”

The call ended, leaving Lena in a state of panic. She had tried so hard to move forward, but her past was catching up to her. She knew she needed to confront these fears once and for all, but she didn’t know if she was strong enough.

She sat on her bed, tears streaming down her face, and called Andrew . When he arrived, he found her trembling, her eyes filled with terror.

“Lena, what happened?” he asked, pulling her into his arms.

She clung to him, her voice shaking. “I got a call… from someone who knows about my past. I’m scared, Andrew . I don’t know what to do.”

Andrew held her tightly, his presence comforting. “We’ll figure this out together. You don’t have to face this alone.”

As they sat together, Lena realized that she couldn’t keep running. She had to confront her past, no matter how terrifying it was. With Andrew by her side, she felt a glimmer of hope. She was ready to face her fears and break the cycle that had held her captive for so long.
